Flying in for breast augmentation
Breast Augmentation in Medellin,
for US Patients
The surgery itself is short. The real question is whether you need volume, a lift, or both, and your trip needs to fit whichever one it is.
After breastfeeding two kids, or losing 30 pounds, what's left isn't the chest you had, or the one you're picturing. You've been comparing breast augmentation in Medellin, Colombia against prices near Miami or Houston, scrolling implant profiles on Instagram. But before you book anything, there's a question no photo answers: whether what you actually have is lost volume, or volume plus sagging, because those aren't the same problem and they don't get fixed by the same surgery.
What breast augmentation in Medellín actually does
Breast augmentation adds volume and reshapes the breast with implants. Size, profile and placement get decided at an in-person consultation, with your measurements and your goals on the table, not before. It's a short surgery compared to body contouring procedures: at noon, it runs 1.5 to 2 hours under general anesthesia, inside Q2's licensed surgical suites. (Q2 is a dedicated surgical facility, separate from the consultation office where you'll first meet your surgeon.)
What an implant doesn't do is lift a sagging breast. If the skin has loosened and the nipple points downward after pregnancy, breastfeeding or a major weight change, that's corrected with a mastopexy: it removes excess skin and repositions the tissue, with implants if you also want more volume, or with just your own tissue if the volume already works for you. Mixing up the two is the most common misunderstanding around this topic, and it's exactly what your surgeon sorts out first at the consultation.
A one-week recovery isn't a one-week trip
Downtime for augmentation alone, without a lift, runs about a week. That sounds short next to the 2 to 3 weeks a tummy tuck needs, and it tempts some patients flying in from Houston or New Jersey to think they can do this over a long weekend. They can't: our reference for staying in Medellín is 1 to 2 weeks, built so that, beyond the surgery day itself, it leaves room for your first follow-up with the surgeon before you board a flight home. Combine the augmentation with a lift and that stay gets longer, since a mastopexy on its own already calls for 2 to 3 weeks of downtime.
You'll need a companion for the first few days. You leave surgery in a post-op bra and someone needs to help you at home. It isn't optional. Traveling with a companion for surgery abroad (also in Spanish) covers what that person actually does day to day, and how long to stay in Colombia after plastic surgery (also in Spanish) breaks down how that number gets built for different procedures. Your actual flight date gets confirmed by your surgeon at the follow-up visit, not from a calculation you ran before paying for the ticket. (Medellín's airport, José María Córdova, sits outside the city in the town of Rionegro, so build that drive into your schedule too.)
What we won't promise you
No procedure is risk-free, not even one this common. We don't promise a cup size that matches a saved photo, or a scar-free result. Implants themselves don't have a fixed expiration date, but they do need periodic checkups for the rest of your life, and at some point they may need to be replaced; that gets tracked at your follow-ups, wherever you happen to be living by then.
What we can tell you is how the decision gets made carefully: an in-person consultation with Dr. Fernando Ruiz, pre-op testing before anyone operates, and follow-up by WhatsApp or video call once you're home, which supports but never replaces the in-person checks you need before flying. If you're still weighing whether a clinic abroad does this the right way, is it safe to get plastic surgery in Colombia (also in Spanish) walks through that.
Before you spend more time comparing prices across cities, message us on WhatsApp and tell us your case: do you need volume, a lift, or both, and how much time do you actually have for the trip. That's how we start building a plan that fits, instead of one that leaves you rushing to the airport with fresh stitches.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
How long does breast augmentation take, and what anesthesia is used?
At noon, it runs 1.5 to 2 hours under general anesthesia, always in an operating room, inside Q2's licensed surgical suites, never in a consultation office.
How do I know what implant size is right?
That gets decided at the in-person consultation, based on your chest wall, your skin, and what you're going for. It isn't a catalog size, and it isn't something a clinic should settle over WhatsApp.
If my breasts are sagging, will an implant lift them?
Not on its own. An implant adds volume, but real sagging from pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight changes gets corrected by a breast lift (mastopexy), with or without implants. Which one you need, or whether you need both, is something your surgeon determines at the consultation.
Will I be able to breastfeed later if I have more children?
In most cases, yes. Tell your surgeon if you're planning a pregnancy, so it factors into the decision on implant type and placement.
How many days do I need to stay in Medellín?
We use a reference of 1 to 2 weeks, built to leave room for a follow-up visit with your surgeon before you fly. Your surgeon confirms the exact number once you're in Medellín, based on how you're healing.
