Plastic surgery in Medellin
from Orlando and Tampa
Flights, timing, recovery stay and safety checks for Central Florida patients considering surgery in Colombia.
If you live in Orlando, Kissimmee or Tampa and you're researching plastic surgery in Medellin from Orlando, the first thing to sort out is the route. Central Florida has its own flight options, and they change with the season, so start there before you think about dates or time off work.
Getting from Orlando or Tampa to Medellín
Central Florida has better access than most people expect.
- From Orlando (MCO): Avianca operates a seasonal nonstop to Medellín, and Frontier has announced a daily flight starting December 10, 2026. Schedules change, so confirm current dates before booking.
- From Tampa (TPA): there's no nonstop to Medellín. Avianca flies nonstop to Bogotá, Colombia's capital, and you connect on a short domestic flight. Another option is to drive to MCO and fly direct.
Medellín's international airport, José María Córdova (MDE), is actually in Rionegro, outside the city. Plan for the drive between the airport and where you're staying. It matters most on the day you fly home after surgery.
Plastic surgery in Medellín from Orlando: how long to stay
This is the part people underestimate. You don't fly in, have surgery and fly out the same week. Our reference ranges:
- Face surgery: 1 to 2 weeks.
- Breast surgery: 1 to 2 weeks.
- Body contouring and combined procedures, such as liposuction, a tummy tuck or a mommy makeover: 2 to 3 weeks. (Procedure pages are in Spanish.)
- Non-surgical aesthetic treatments: usually same day or a few days.
For context, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) suggests waiting 5 to 7 days before flying after body procedures and 7 to 10 days after facial surgery. It also notes that the risk of blood clots from immobility, long flights included, is higher in the 6 weeks after surgery. At noon, your flight home isn't set by a chart. Your surgeon clears you at a follow-up visit, so book a flexible return ticket.
Timing your trip from Central Florida
If you work in hospitality or the theme parks, you already know summer and the holidays are the hardest time to get off. Start with how many consecutive days you can take, then see which procedure fits. Only have a week? Then a tummy tuck isn't the right plan for this trip, and we'd rather tell you that upfront.
Weather on the return leg matters too. Florida summers are hot and humid, and summer is also hurricane season. Flying home in a compression garment into that heat is uncomfortable, and a storm can push a flight. Medellín itself has mild weather year-round, which helps during recovery.
The time difference is barely noticeable. Colombia doesn't observe daylight saving time, so Orlando matches Medellín in winter and is one hour ahead from March to November. That also makes things easy once you're home: we check in remotely over WhatsApp or video call. It doesn't replace your in-person follow-up visits in Medellín before you fly, and for an emergency, go to an emergency room in Central Florida.
Entry rules for US citizens
About 84,000 people of Colombian origin live in the Orlando area and about 45,000 in the Tampa area, according to the US Census (ACS 2024). Kissimmee is one of the places where that community is most visible. Which passport you travel on matters. If you're a US citizen, you don't need a tourist visa for Colombia. Entry is granted for up to 90 days, extendable up to 180 per year, and Migración Colombia's rules include medical treatment as a permitted tourist activity. Migración Colombia also recommends completing the free online Check-MIG form.
If you hold both US and Colombian citizenship, travel with your valid Colombian passport. Either way, check current requirements before you fly. We don't give immigration advice.
Consultation and safety in Medellín
We can talk on WhatsApp and book your appointment, but nobody is "approved" for surgery from a photo. Your surgeon examines you in person in Medellín and orders pre-op lab work. If your results aren't where they should be, surgery is postponed, even if you've already flown in. Surgery happens in licensed operating rooms at Q2, never in an office.
Every surgery carries risks, including bleeding, infection, healing problems and anesthesia complications. We go through them one by one before you sign the informed consent. Our safety page (in Spanish) lists six warning signs worth checking at any clinic, ours included.
Bring someone with you
For surgery, you need an adult with you for the first several days. Patients with family in Colombia have this covered. If you don't, come with your partner, your mom or a close friend, and stay near the clinic so follow-up visits are easy.
